Robert H. McGibbon

November 4, 1928 ~ February 27, 2022 (age 93)

Cobleskill- Robert Heath McGibbon, formerly of Amsterdam and Cobleskill, passed away on February 27, 2022, at age 93. Born in Amsterdam on November 4, 1928, he was the only child of James and Rhea Heath McGibbon. Bob attended Amsterdam School of Commerce in 1947 and then went to work for Mohasco Industries for 35 years where he retired as Supervisor of the Order Department. He later worked for Flynn’s Auto Parts in Cobleskill.

Bob was a drummer in several area bands, notable the Duke Armand Quartet, Mark III Trio, and Freddie Clute Band, playing weekends at establishments within a 75-mile radius. He grew up with the music of the Big Band era and maintained a life-long appreciation for all kinds of music. He enjoyed baseball, especially listening to Yankees and Mets games, and vanilla milkshakes. Bob was a very social man who kept in contact with friends he met in school, work or socially. Sometimes it was hard to reach him because he was always on the phone, calling his friends regularly to catch up. He appreciated good food that he didn’t have to cook and as a result he never met a waitress he didn’t like. Bob was a quick-witted jokester who specialized in knowing all sorts of trivia.

Bob was predeceased by his parents, the mother of his children, Irene Frank McGibbon (2013), and his second wife, Theresa Martin McGibbon (2012). He is survived by three children: Jean (William) Barnoski of Perth, NY, James McGibbon of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ann “Bunny” (Skip) Jackson of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also survived by a granddaughter Rhea Cassie McGibbon of Mississippi and two stepsons, Ray (Diana) Martin of Sharon Springs and Greg Martin of Cobleskill and four step-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at 11AM on Friday, June 10, 2022 at Bramanville-Prospect Cemetery, Howes Cave, NY.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, NY.
