Merrill "Jim" J. Wojcik

March 21, 1962 ~ January 20, 2021 (age 58)

Charleston- Merrill “Jim” J. Wojcik III, 58, passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam with his family by his side and is now home with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Born March 21, 1962, in Plattsburgh, NY, he was the son of Merrill J. II and Sylvia M. (Bowdish) Wojcik.

Jim attended Chazy Central School for 10 years and finished out at the Fonda-Fultonville School District. Afterward he went on to enlist in the United States Navy and after serving his country he received an honorable discharge.

Jim worked for the NYS Thruway Authority for 15 plus years maintaining the roads from Albany to Amsterdam; from plowing, building, and resurfacing them. Jim also worked for the Cady Co. where he helped build, resurface, and tar the roads. Jim co-owned the Country Kitchen and Grocery, with his wife, Susie for 17 years.

Jim adored looking after his grandkids, nieces, and nephews. Spending time with them and making them happy meant the world to Jim. Jim also loved his pond. He named all the frogs that lived on the pond and even named the turtle, Lily, who came back every year to lay her eggs on the pond shore. Although the pond had many residents on it that Jim looked after, none were so exotic as the koi fish that lived in the pond that he fed.

When Jim wasn’t taking care of his grandkids, nieces, and nephews, he could be found gardening, fishing, and cooking. Sometimes he enjoyed listening to piano music or playing golf. He also restored old cars and tractors. Watching old movies was a past time for him as well, Godzilla being one of his favorite old movies. He found pleasure in antiquing; trying to add to his many collections, his favorites being glassware and wooden ducks.

Forever cherishing his memories are his wife, Susie Wojcik of Charleston whom he married on November 25, 1989; his children: Jason (Karen) Pratt of Palatine Bridge, Jessi (Bill) Lake of Sprakers, Bradley Wojcik of Amsterdam and MJ Wojcik of Fort Hunter; his parents, Merrill J. II and Sylvia M. (Bowdish) Wojcik; his brothers: Jeff Wojcik of Charleston and Michael (Colleen) Wojcik of Ocala, Fl; his grandchildren: Dustin, Emily, James, Grace and Otto and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s name to the Zachery and Elizabeth Fisher Home, 113 Holland Ave, Albany, NY 12208.
