Cobleskill- Mary Lou Schowe, 77, formerly of Cobleskill, passed away on Monday, February 8, 2021 at The Ellis Residential and Rehabilitation Center in Schenectady.
She was born September 30, 1943 in Cobleskill and was the daughter of Kenneth and Mabel (Tillapaugh) Bellinger.
Mary Lou was a 1961 graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School and a 1963 graduate of SUNY Cobleskill Agriculture and Technical College with a degree in Early Childhood Education.
After graduation at SUNY, she taught Nursery School for twenty years at Ellenville (NY) Co-operative Nursery School and an additional 23 years teaching in Schenectady at the Magic Kingdom Nursey and Day Care Center. Mary Lou loved children and was totally happy and a professional in nurturing and educating the little people in her life.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Edison Van Schaick, who died in 1979, her brother, Donald Bellinger, who died in 2016, and her brother-in-law, Richard Southworth, who died in 2015.
Mary Lou is survived by her husband of 39 years, Richard Schowe of Schenectady, her son, Todd Van Schaick, his wife Stephanie and their son, Jacob, all of Schenectady. Also surviving is her sister, Deanna Southworth of Seward, and her sons, Mark and his wife Chris and Dennis and his wife Brenda and their son Jeremiah, her sister-in law Karen Bellinger of Indianapolis, IN and her daughters, Sarah and Laura, along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Ellis RRC Hospital for their excellent care she received for over five years.
Public visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2010 from 5-7 pm at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY. A private funeral service will be held for the family. Burial will be held in the spring at Slate Hill Cemetery.
