Obituary

Sharon Springs- Josephine E. King, 88, formerly of Sharon Springs, died Thursday, May 6, 2021 at Wilkinson Rehabilitation Health Care Facility in Amsterdam where she had been a resident for the past four years.

Born May 24, 1932 in the Town of Fulton, she was the daughter of Anton and Eleanor (Stanton) Nirschl. 

Josephine retired in 1977 from the Town of Sharon where she had been elected to the Town Clerk’s position. Her hobbies include playing scrabble and card games, growing her many African Violets, bird watching and identifying them by their song as well as reading her bible daily.  She lived her life with no regrets right to the very end and loved everybody.

On August 12, 1950 she married Ivan King and he predeceased her on October 30, 2011.  She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings: Anton Nirschl, Jr., Robert Nirschl and Richard Nirschl along with her son-in-law, Robert Van Dycke.

Survivors include her daughters:  Hollis (Douglas) Hall of Schroon Lake, Diane (George) Spohn of Sharon Springs and Kimberly Van Dycke of Broadalbin; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson; her siblings: Margaret Becker of Cobleskill, Betty Cullen of Sharon Springs, Beverly (Bob) Kachmarik of NC, Allen (Joan) Nirschl of Stamford, NY,  Edwin (Kathy) Nirschl of Maryland, NY, Steve (Barbara) Nirschl of Cobleskill, David (Linda) Nirschl of PA and Susan (Gary) Davis of Seward; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 9AM to 11AM on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.  A private funeral service will be held for the family and burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lawyersville or Sharon Reformed Church or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
