Cobleskill- John Peter Barber, Jr., 87, of Shad Point Road, died on Sunday, April 12, 2020 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.
Born December 24, 1932 in Brunswick, GA, he was the son of John P. and Mary (Duarte) Barber. John was raised in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from the NY School of Industrial Art.
He enlisted in the US Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sargent in 1957. Most of John’s work career was in airborne radar testing and repair. John relocated to the Schoharie County area in 1971 and took employment with the Village of Cobleskill Water Department, retiring in 1994 as Water Superintendent.
His hobbies included astronomy, fishing and woodworking.
John is survived by his wife, the former Diana Weber, whom he married in 1959, and a sister, Yvette Higgins of Middletown along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Louis Barber.
