George "Mickie" M. Bender

May 19, 1941 ~ November 7, 2020 (age 79)


Richmondville- George Melvin Bender (Mickie) passed away on November 7, 2020 after a long illness surrounded by loved ones.

George was born May 19, 1941 on Sunny Side Hill to Henry Bender and Helen Oliver Bender.  He was 1 of 10 children.

George is survived by his wife, Gail (Dobson) Bender of 55 1/2 years; two sons: Randy and Roderick (Leslie) Bender both live in Florida; one daughter, Auneta Bender of Cobleskill; seventeen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; his siblings: Ruey Gould of Richmondville, Ted (Bernice) Bender of Tennessee and Helen Nelson of Altamont.

He was preceded in death by his son, George Bender II, a sister-in-law, Glenna Peckham (Bruce) of AL, four brothers and three sisters.

George enjoyed taking trips with Steven and giving Jayemson (Boddie) rides with him in the wheelchair.  He liked going to the Sunshine Fair to visit with the pancake man, fishing, being on his boat and the company of family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family’s convenience.  Memorial contributions may be made to R.V.E.S., PO Box 11, Richmondville, NY 12149, Pilgrim Holiness Church, State Route 7, East Worcester, NY 12064 or Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley Inc., PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY  12043.
