Obituary

Seward- Gary R. Ullman, 73, of Kings Lane, died Thursday, January 28, 2021 at Albany Medical Center following an unexpected medical event on Monday.

Born March 16, 1947 in Cooperstown, he was the son of Robert S. and Elizabeth (Empie) Ullman.

Gary was a United States Marine Corp veteran, proudly serving our country from 1965 until receiving an honorable discharge as Lance Corporal in 1969.  He was a member of Sharon Springs American Legion Post 1269 and the Schoharie County American Legion Honor Guard.

For more than 30 years Gary was a butcher for Grand Union, working in stores in Cobleskill, Middleburgh, Palatine Bridge and others.  Following that he worked for Federal Express and later Slate Hill Cemetery as one of the grounds keepers.  Gary was also a trustee for the Slate Hill Cemetery Board.

Gary was a member of the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Department, serving as Fire Police and was a former member of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Department.  In his leisure, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.

Gary was predeceased by his father, Robert in 2008 and mother, Elizabeth in 2012, grandson, Michael in 1994 and his son, Scott, and daughter, Tammy.

Treasuring his memories are his wife, Susan, whom he married May 18, 1968; his son, Todd (Michelle) Ullman of Seward; siblings:  Joyce (Gerald) Dornburgh of Fort Plain, Cynthia Edwards of Worcester and Wayne (Deborah) Ullman of Kapaa , HI; six grandchildren: Daniel Ullman of Richmondville, Nicole (Justin) Newman of Memphis, TN, Tyler Ullman of Cobleskill, Devin Purcell of Voorheesville, Spencer Tyrrell of Cobleskill and Morgan Tyrrell of Seward.

A period of visitation will be held from 10AM to 12PM on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Dept., 610 E. Main St., Cobleskill.  A private service will be held for the family.  Face coverings and social distancing will be respected by all.  Spring interment will be in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon, with military honors.
