Cobleskill- E. Jane (Janie) Taylor, 96, formerly of Cobleskill passed away peacefully on Monday, January 11, 2021 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.
Born September 21, 1924 in Cobleskill, NY she was the daughter of Floyd and Susie (VanValkenburg) Christman, in a family of 14 children.
Jane graduated from Cobleskill Central School in 1942 and married Foster W. Taylor in 1947. She worked for Cobleskill Central School District Food Service for many years before she retired in 1986. Prior to working at Cobleskill Central School, Jane worked in the law office of Milo Kniffen of Cobleskill.
Jane was a lifelong member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees. She served on the Administrative Board, as an usher and greeter, taught Sunday School and was a youth group leader. Jane was a long-time member of the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club, Schoharie County Bowling Association, Community Hospital Auxiliary and Schoharie County Food Service Association.
Jane enjoyed traveling and camping with her family. They spent many summers visiting State Parks in the Adirondacks. She enjoyed cross country trips with her sister and brother-in-law, Gert and Al Luongo. Jane and her former husband, Foster, visited Hawaii with long-time friend, Dottie Dikeman, native of Hawaii. She and her daughter cruised the Inner Passage to Alaska when she was 80 years old. Jane also enjoyed numerous trips to area casinos.
She was predeceased by 10 siblings: William Christman, Warren Christman, Carlton Christman, Gertrude Luongo, Floyd Christman, Jr., Donald Christman, Dorothy Dupree, Charlotte Chichester, Helen Zelker and John Christman along with her great-grandson, Frank Taylor.
Forever cherishing Jane’s memories are her daughter, Barbara (Richard) Corsall of Cobleskill; her son, Scott (Marta) Taylor of Cobleskill; her sisters: Shirley LaMountain of NY and Marge Bucher of FL; her brother, Robert Christman of MS; her grandchildren: McKenzie (June) Taylor, Melissa (David) Snare and Nicole Taylor; her great-grandchildren: Noble Owings, Hannah Eamer-Dulin, Michael Taylor, Nicolas Taylor and Jeramiah Wilson as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service with inurnment at South Valley Cemetery will be held in the spring. Details will be provided at a later date.
