Carl McDonald

June 30, 1928 ~ December 13, 2021 (age 93)


Richmondville- Carl. D. McDonald, 93, died Monday, December 13, 2021, at St. Johnsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where he had been a resident for the past year.

Born June 30, 1928, in Richmondville, he was the son of Ronald and Dorothy (Brooker) McDonald. He graduated from Richmondville Central School in June 1946, a member of the first class to have completed all twelve grades in their new school.

He served in the US Army from November 3, 1950, to November 3, 1952, and was honorably discharged from Fort Campbell, KY as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division. He also served from June 28, 1955, to July 19, 1956, and earned an honorable discharge from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC.

Mr. McDonald returned to the home farm and raised forty head of registered Holstein calves into a dairy in two years. The barn was destroyed by fire on January 22, 1963. He sold the dairy at an auction in Cobleskill on February 9, 1963.

Carl was then employed at local creameries as a Dairy Inspector for several years at Richmondville Creamery and North Blenheim Creamery and Schoharie County Coop in Cobleskill.

Later he was employed by NYS and retired from the Department of Transportation in Albany. He was a member of the CSEA, DAV, American Legion and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #2040 in Cobleskill.

Carl served three terms as Councilman for the town of Richmondville. His spare time was spent fishing in the Adirondacks or riding his Moped with a neighbor on the country roads.

He is survived by his sister, Aileen Gray of Cobleskill and her family and his late brother’s family, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Robert C. McDonald, his brother of Marietta, OH.
