Cobleskill- William "Bill" M. Power, Sr., 67, of South Grand St., died Thursday, April 27, 2017 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady following a long battle with multiple sclerosis.
Born July 5, 1949 in Waterford, Ireland, he was the son of Michael and Anne (Denn) Power.
Bill immigrated to the United States on the SS America at the age of 10. He was raised in Jamaica, Queens and attended Carpenters Technical College. A member of the NY City United Brotherhood of Carpenters since 1970, he was proud to be part of the construction of the World Trade Center and was deeply saddened to see the destruction of 9/11.
Bill moved his family to Sharon Springs in 1979. A few years later following a house fire, the family moved back to the NY City area and upon early retirement due to his disability, they returned to Schoharie County in 1989.
Bill was a history buff, and was always interested in learning more about the Titanic. He had a wonderful sense of humor, loved traveling, especially cruises, and enjoyed his hobby as a locksmith.
Bill was predeceased by his parents and his youngest brother, Sean.
Survivors include his wife of forty-seven years, Mary E. (Scally) Power; five children: William M. Power, Jr. of Floral Park, Michael J. Power (fiancé, Gina Cardello) of Huntington Station, Catherine T. Power of Green Island, Karen Power (Daniel Wellman) of Gallupville, and Mary E. Power of Cobleskill; four grandchildren: Emerald and Liam Power, Sabastian Horhota and Saphira Power; four siblings: James "Mosaic Man" Power of East Village, Gloria Snyder of West Fulton, Michael Power of Scranton and Margaret Power of Staten Island; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 5 PM on Monday, May 1, 2017 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, where a period of visitation will be held from 4 to 5PM prior to the service on Monday. Dr. Gary Sermon, deacon of St. Vincent de Paul Church will preside. Burial will be private.
