East Cobleskill- Mr. William C. Mau, 81, of State Route 145, died Friday, November 16, 2007 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital following a short illness.
Mr. Mau was born April 21, 1926 in Brooklyn, the son of William and Harriett (France) Mau. He was a lifelong area resident, graduating from the former Cobleskill High School in 1944. A crane operator at General Electric, Mr. Mau retired in August of 1986. He was a member of the General Electric's Quarter Century Club.
He served in the United States Army 554th Engineers Corp. during World War II and was a member of the American Legion.
Mr. Mau was a Master Mason with the Cobleskill Lodge No. 394, serving as master from 1982 to 1983 and 1983 to 1984. He was a 32 degree Mason Valley of Schenectady-Scottish Rites. He was a member of the Cyprus Temple-Shriner of Albany, Past Masters Unit of Cyprus Shrine, past President of Schoharie County Shrine Club (where he was the second president of the club), one of the three founders of the Schoharie County Shrine Club with Dick Stahl and George Walker, R.W. Past District Grand Lecturer in 1990, member of the Order of the Eastern Star - Rising Star Onestagrawa, and served as Patron four times for Cobleskill #295. Mr. Mau was a member of the Beukendaal-George Hope Chapter No. 271, serving as a patron twice, and Order of the Eastern Star-District Grand Lecturer for 2005to2006 for the Albany-Rensselaer-Schenectady District.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Lillian (Wright) Mau; and son and daughter-in-law, William and Stephanie Mau of Rotterdam; a daughter and son-in-law, Joan (Mau) and Troy Parmater of Niskayuna; 5 grandchildren: Christina Parmater, Christopher Mau, William Mau,Alexander Mau and Erick Mau; 2 step-grandchildren: Kate Gilmartin and Seth Daughenbaugh; 2 brothers: Robert Mau of East Cobleskill, and Gordon Mau; and a sister: Alice (Mau) Wright of East Cobleskill.
He was predeceased by his sister, Catherine Brown May 20, 1977.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the Cobleskill United Methodist Church Chapel St. Cobleskill, with Rev. Laurel Phillips officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill where a Masonic Service will be held at 6:00 PM.
Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
