Middleburgh - William F. Brosnan, 88, of MT Path, died Sunday, August 4, 2013 at his residence.

Born April 11, 1925 in New York City, he was a son of Thomas and Catherine (Dineen) Brosnan.

Bill was a United States Navy Veteran, serving his country from 1943 until 1946 when he received an honorable discharge. He then began his career as a fireman with the New York City Fire Department, retiring after twenty years of service.

For many years, Bill and his wife summered in Gilboa until permanently retiring there. It was in 2009 that they moved to the village of Middleburgh. He was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Middleburgh.

Bill's hobby was painting tall ships and lighthouses.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen (Helen) Brosnan, whom he married August 25, 1951; four children: Kevin T. Brosnan of Huntington Station, Mary Ellen (Robert) Cronin of Lawrence, NY, Michael W. Brosnan of Middleburgh, and Matthew G. Brosnan of Bronx; six grandchildren: Amy Cara Brosnan of Troy, NY, Brianne Rose Brosnan of Virginia Beach, VA, Erin Brosnan of Rotterdam, NY, Maureen (Brian) Brosnan Bradt of Seward, Michael Brosnan of Seward, NY, and Joseph Bradt of Seward; a great-grandson: William Acevedo; and a great-great foster grandson: Isaac Acevedo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Main St., Middleburgh. Father William Gorman will be the celebrant. Burial will follow with military honors at Middleburgh Cemetery. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Thursday at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
