Willard Foland

Willard T. Foland, 91, formerly of Breakabeen, NY, died Monday, October 20, 2008 at the Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta, NY where he had been a resident since November of 2007.

Mr. Foland was born in the Town of Fulton, NY a son of the late William A. and Edna (Briggs) Foland. Mr. Foland worked for many years as a bus driver for Middleburgh Central School and also did maintenance work at the New York State Capitol building in Albany, NY. He was very active in the Breakabeen community. He was a member of the Breakabeen Presbyterian Church, a 75 year member of the Breakabeen Grange and enjoyed doing Grange displays for the Cobleskill Sunshine Fair. He was a former Assessor for the Town of Fulton and an avid local baseball player. He coached little league for many years and was a past president of the local Association. Mr. Foland was a member of the Middleburgh Lions Club and participated in the former annual walk fundraiser. He also enjoyed gardening. Mr. Foland was predeceased by his wife, Jessica E. Foland on May 16, 2001 and by his sister, Edith Buzon and brothers: Robert and William H. Foland. He is survived by 3 daughters: Donna Rainville of Winston-Salem, N.C., Patricia McCoy of Middleburgh, NY and Ann Bevins of Esperance, NY; 2 sons: Nelson W. Foland of Nashua, NH and Dennis Foland of Middleburgh, NY; 14 Grandchildren; 16 Great-Grandchildren; his sister: Shirley Rhinehart of Middleburgh, NY; and his brother: Victor Foland of Stamford, NY.
A funeral service will be held at 10am, Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Breakabeen Presbyterian Church, Breakabeen, NY. Rev. Bert Mayne of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church will officiate. Calling hours will be Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 6-8pm at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, NY. Private burial, following cremation at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady, will be held in the Breakabeen Cemetery.
