Cobleskill- Wayne A. Cooper, Sr., 80, of North Street died Tuesday, July 21, 2020 in the comfort of his home with his loving family at his side.
Born April 28, 1940 in Cobleskill, he was the son of Chauncey and Ethel (Diamond) Cooper.
Wayne retired from Cobleskill Regional Hospital where he was a security officer for several years as well as a courier. He served in the Army National Guard #127 from March 1956 until March 1964.
He was a lifetime member, over 50 years, of the Cobleskill Volunteer Fire Dept. and Rescue Squad. Wayne was also a Golden Eagle member (33 years) of the fraternal organization of Eagles Aeries of Cobleskill #2695 and served in the Schoharie County TAC and Rescue Force for about 35 years.
A music lover, Wayne played in various bands throughout the county and enjoyed giving lessons to his children and grandchildren. He played at live radio stations in Amsterdam and Gloversville years ago.
Cherishing years of wonderful memories are his wife, Wanda Cooper, whom he married March 4, 1962; four children: Wayne A. (Robin) Cooper, Jr. of Cobleskill, Pamela A. Strong (Dan) of Schoharie, Michael A. Cooper (Mylea) of Cobleskill and Lynn M. (Timothy) Lape of Summit; his siblings: Yvonne Blodgett of Cobleskill and Madeline Cooper of Amsterdam, Greg (Mary) Cooper of Schenevus; fourteen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Wayne was predeceased by his siblings: Marlin, Eugene, Chester Sr, and George.
A period of visitation will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 from 11 Am until 1PM at the Cobleskill Fire Department, 610 East Main St., Cobleskill. Please be mindful of mandatory Face Coverings and Social Distancing. The funeral service will be private for the immediate family. All are welcome to join the visitation and funeral service virtually in Zoom Meeting ID 856 7601 0643 Password 024570. Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
