Walter Paul Tomkiewicz, 90, of West Fulton Rd., passed away on January 2, 2008 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady NY.

Walter was born in Newark, NJ on June 30, 1918 to Joseph and Mary Tomkiewicz. He later lived in numerous places within the states of New Jersey and New York. He served in United States Army, during World War II from 1943 - 1946. In his early years in New Jersey, Walter enjoyed motorcycles and belonged to a motorcycle club. He was an avid weight lifter and was well known for his technique and the amount of weight he could lift. He worked in a shoe factory in New York and at other jobs prior to becoming self employed in the lumber business. Walter could identify every type of tree in the forest and the usage for each type of wood. He was also a carpenter and held great pride in his work. He built the log cabin in which he lived for over 30 years. He loved good food and could name almost every restaurant between West Fulton and south Jersey and tell you what their specialty was. He enjoyed the mountains, the ocean, driving around the country side, sitting on his deck and talking about the old days. He was preceeded in death by his parents and three brothers, Edward, Albin and Joseph

He is survived by his nephews and niece, Edward S. (Phyllis) Tomkiewicz, Pierre SD; Dorothy J. Bauer, Albany NY; James A. Tomkiewicz, Freehold NY

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2008 at St. Catherine's Church, Main St., Middleburgh NY. Father Thomas Holmes will be celebrant. Friends are invited to call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2008 at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh NY. Memorials may be sent to the Middleburgh Emergency Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 817, Middleburgh, NY 12122.
