Walter Mau,

Cobleskill- Walter G. Mau, Jr., 80, of Mineral Springs Road, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.

Born July 12, 1933 in Cobleskill, he was a son of Mabel (Wilday) and Walter G. Mau, Sr. A lifelong area resident, Walter graduated from Middleburgh Central School in 1951.

Walter retired from General Electric where he was a manufacturing engineer for thirty-three years. He had also been a farmer for several years.

He was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Central Bridge, where he devoted many hours on the church council. Walter was also a member of the Free & Accepted Masons Lodge #394 in Cobleskill and served as past treasurer, and was an active member of Habitat for Humanity, assisting in building three homes.

Survivors include his wife: Patricia (Thorington) Mau, whom he married May 29, 1954; four children: Barbara (Anthony) Kossmann of Altamont, Steven Mau of Seattle, WA, Mark (Jeanne) Mau of Cobleskill, and Matthew (Lisa) Mau of Scotia; two brothers: Herman Mau of Schenectady, and Henry Mau of Cobleskill; and six grandchildren: Michelle (Kevin) Mara of NY City, Nickolas Kossmann of Altamont, Gretchen, Analiese, and Warren Mau all of Cobleskill, and Joshua Mau of Scotia.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, Central Bridge, with Rev. Steffen Zehrfus officiating. A period of visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Friday, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. A Masonic service will be held at 7 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral service and private inurnment will be in Zion Rural Cemetery, Seward, NY.
