Cobleskill- Walter “Pete” Martin, 73, of Cobleskill, died Sunday, December 13, 2020 at Evergreen Commons Rehabilitation Center in East Greenbush where he was a patient for only a few days. Born August 16, 1947 in Albany, he was the son of the late Walter O. and Virginia (Blodgett) Martin.
His business career began at General Electric, then as a purchasing agent for Kintz Plastics and lastly as a consultant for Universal Plastics and Alstom Transportation.
Pete attended Cobleskill High School where his wrestling career began. He then attended SUNY Cobleskill and Plattsburgh, where his wrestling continued to excel. He was the first wrestler to be inducted into Plattsburgh’s Cardinal Athletic Hall of Fame.
Pete became a much-loved wrestling coach in Cobleskill and Duanesburg and a respected referee throughout the entire Capital District. He stayed active in the community by serving in various youth programs at Teen Town and summer lunch programs. He loved animals and was active in greyhound rescue.
Those of us who loved Pete will dearly miss his crazy sense of humor and his determination to fight against incredible odds battling his health issues.
