Walter Hill

Carlisle - Walter J. Hill, 74, of Hannah Lane, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at his residence surrounded by family and friends.

Born January 3, 1937 in Utica, NY, he was the son of Walter C. and Ivy (Glines) Hill. Walter retired from the Edwards-Knox High School of Edwards, NY, where he was an industrial arts teacher for twenty-eight years.

Walter was a member of the Kiwanis of Standish, ME, the Schoharie Valley Band, Cobleskill Model Train Club and the Grosvenors Corners United Methodist Church. He was also a founding member of the Gouverneur Rescue Squad.

Walter's hobbies include trains, reading, woodworking and playing his tuba.

He is survived by his wife: Dorothy (Gavigan) Hill, whom he married June 13, 1959; three children: John Hill and his wife, Kathy Maronski of Downingtown, PA; Laura Hill and her husband, Joseph Romano of Limington, ME; and Lisa Mason and her husband, Christopher of Knox, NY; six grandchildren: Amanda and Kevin Mason of Knox, NY, Eric and Lauren Hill of Downingtown, PA, Megan and Jacob Romano of Limington, ME.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Grosvenors Corner United Methodist Church, 1148 Grosvenors Corners, Central Bridge, with Rev. Jeff Rauhauser officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church on Saturday, from 2 to 3 PM, prior to the service. Interment will be private.
