Sharon Springs- Virginia L. Schnell, 74, of State Route 20, died suddenly at her home on Saturday, March 1, 2014.
Born February 17, 1940 in Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Gladys (Prinz) Celentano.
Virginia and her family moved to Sharon Springs in 1972 from the Bronx area and she had been employed at Coleco Industries in Amsterdam as a laborer.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, fondly remembered as "Nanu" by her great-grandchildren. A homemaker for many years, she found enjoyment in spending her time playing computer games.
Survivors include her husband, Arthur G. Schnell, whom she married July 1, 1956; four children: Louis (Debbie) Schnell of Seward, Gladys (Lenny) Rorick of Canandaigua, Virginia (Dale) Garber and Laurinda (George) Pawlaczyk, all of Sharon Springs; three siblings: Josephine "Celia" (Carlos) Calderon of Deltona, FL, Gladys "Gail" (Tony) Mitchell and Joseph (Donna) Celentano all of Bronx; seven grandchildren: Art Rorick, Tina Rorick, Louis Schnell, Richard Bruce, Chris Bruce, Connie Schnell, and Matthew Bruce; and eight great-grandchildren.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Father John Roos as celebrant. Family and friends are also invited to attend a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the liturgy on Tuesday, from 2 to 4 PM. Spring interment will be in Bramanville-Prospect Cemetery.
