Cobleskill- Mrs. Violet M. Vrooman, 85, of Colonial Village, died Saturday, October 10, 2009 at her residence with her family at her side.
Born October 27, 1923, in the Beekman Mansion, town of Sharon, Mrs. Vrooman was a daughter of Burdette and Ella Hamm (Mattice) Hotaling.
She was educated in Cobleskill and completed her education at Royal Academy Beauty School in Schenectady. Mrs. Vrooman retired from BeechNut in Canajoharie, and had also been employed at Fenimore Fabrics in Cobleskill at one time.
She was a member of the Sharon Springs Reformed Church and the Eastern Star Chapter in Sharon Springs.
Mrs. Vrooman enjoyed dining out and visiting family and friends, as well as attending the Saratoga Race Track. She loved gardening, particularly tending to her flowers. Other interests were quilting, needlecrafts, and interior decorating.
She was predeceased by her husband, Durwood K. Vrooman, whom she married June 22, 1946, and her siblings, Harold, Lester, David "D.A.", Walter, and Burdette Hotaling, Nellie Anderson, Golda Stanley, Shirley Holmes, and infant sister, Clara Hotaling.
Survivors include her daughter: Hollie Vitola of Middleburgh; two sisters: Marion Marshall of Cobleskill, and Daisy Miller of Florida; three grandchildren: Peter J. Vitola of Kings Park, Gina Garner of Middleburgh, and Janna Zeller of Selden, NY; 3 great-grandsons, 3 great-granddaughters; 2 sisters-in-law: Wilma Hotaling and Frances Hotaling and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tues., October 13, 2009 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill. Officiating will be Rev. Jared van Wagenen IV. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church from 12 to 2 PM on Tues., prior to the service. Cremation will follow at Vale Crematory and inurnment will be at Fort Plain Cemetery at a later date.
