Cobleskill- Mrs. Violet Florio, 78, formerly of Cobleskill, died Friday, November 6, 2009 at Guilderland Center Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past nine years.

Born July 11, 1931 in Middleburgh, Violet was a daughter of Raymond and Ruth (Van Auken) Lawyer.

She attended Middleburgh Central School and had lived in New York City during her early adult life. While living there for over twenty years, she worked with the Catholic Relief Program and also at Stern Brothers. In the early 1970's, Violet moved to Cobleskill and was employed as an accountant for the former Wohl's Department Store.

She was predeceased by her siblings: Harold "Bill" Lawyer, Marilyn Whittaker, Thomas Lawyer, and Gerald "Jake" Lawyer.

Survivors include three sisters: Thelma Schick of Deansboro, NY, Margaret Sommers of Cobleskill, and Jeannette Lawyer of Garfield, NJ; a brother, Everett "Pete" (Doris)Lawyer of Schoharie, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral liturgy will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Sister Connie James of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill will officiate. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation at the funeral home from 5:30 to 6:30 PM Tues., prior to the service. Cremation will follow at Vale Crematory and the inurnment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery at a later date.
