East Worcester- Viola Effner, 89, of East Worcester, went to her eternal rest surrounded by her family on July 4, 2020. Born January 8, 1931 in Maryland, NY, she was the daughter of John and Minnie Stevens of Schenevus.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1984, William Effner, Sr. and a son, Harry Effner in 1976, and her grandson, Joseph Effner, Jr. in 1988.
Viola loved to spend time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was a housewife and mother.
She is survived by her siblings, sisters: Helen (Charles)Mykel of Fort Plain, Irene Layman of Milford, and Marjorie Dodson of Fort Plain, sister-in-law, Ruth Stevens of Schoharie; and brother, Frederick Stevens of Fort Edward.
Viola is also survived by her children, daughters: Jean Graham of Warnerville, Mary (Larry) Salisbury of East Worcester; sons: Bruce (Suzanne) Stevens of Warnerville, William Effner, Jr. of Cobleskill, Joseph Effner of Cobleskill and Kenneth (Joan) Effner of Richmondville; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister, Louise Loring, and brothers, John Stevens, Jr., Richard Stevens, Edward Stevens, Robert Stevens, and Ned Stevens.
Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 from 9AM to 11AM at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. A private funeral service will be held for the immediate family with burial following in Schenevus Cemetery. Face coverings and social distancing will be required.
