Cobleskill- Vincent "Jim" DeVitto, 91, of Lawyersville Road, died Friday, April 15, 2016 at his residence.
He was born September 5, 1924, in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of Ralph and Louise (Fucci) DeVitto.
He proudly served his country in WWII with the 101st Airborne Division, fighting in Normandy, parachuting into the Battle of the Bulge, as well as Holland, Ardennes and Central Germany. He was the recipient of four Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, three Overseas Bars, Unit Citation with Oak Leaf Cluster, Paratroop Wings, Arrowhead and a Purple Heart. He retired from the New York City Police Department after 20 years of service.
He and his wife moved to the Cobleskill area in 2012 from Riverhead, LI.
Jim was predeceased by a son, Vincent, and his wife, Josephine, who died on March 16, 2015.
He is survived by his children: Liberty (Anna) DeVitto of Brooklyn, Louise (Albert Wieckhorst) DeVitto of Cobleskill, Salvatore (June) DeVitto of Riverhead, LI, Anita Young of New Jersey; a sister, Carmela Mauro of Lindenhurst; eight Grandchildren, Liberty, Devon, Jolene, Tarin, Torrey, Eric, Maryelle, and Lea; and one Great Grandson, Vincent.
A Committal Service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at 11:00 am in Calverton National Cemetery in Calverton, LI.
