Broome Center - Victor W. Mace, 79, of Broome Center Road, died at his residence on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
Born October 15, 1932 on the home farm in Mackey, town of Gilboa, he was the son of Stanley and Gladys (Lemon) Mace.
Victor was a United States Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict from 1954 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1956.
He was a graduate from Gilboa-Conesville Central School in 1952 and received his associates degree in Ag Engineering from SUNY Cobleskill. Victor retired from General Electric in Schenectady, where he was a machinist in the gas turbine division.
He served as trustee and president of the Broome Center Chapel, president of the Keyserkill Cemetery Assoc., a board member for Western Catskills Revitalization Committee and the Delaware-Ulster Railroad. Victor was also a member of the Gilboa Free and Accepted Masonic Lodge #630.
He married Bonnie Brown on May 27, 1961 and she predeceased him on July 31, 2007.
Survivors include his children: Todd V. (Melissa) Mace of Clifton Park and Brenda (Robert) Weaver of Conesville; a sister: Katharine Bedford of Stamford; his good friend: Bonnie McKenzie of Stamford; four grandchildren: Andrew Weaver (fiance, Danielle Doyle) of New Hartford, NY, Kira Weaver of Gilboa, Christopher Mace of Clifton Park, and Nicholas Mace of Clifton Park; and his great-granddaughter: Hailey Weaver of New Hartford, NY.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 1, 2011 at Broome Center Chapel, Mace Road, Broome Center, with James Marquit officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Keyserkill Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
