West Fulton- Valera Cole, 106, formerly of West Fulton, died Monday, August 4, 2014, at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home where she had resided for the past five years.
She was born April 15, 1908 in the town of Fulton, the daughter of Lorenzo and Lucy E. (Stanton) Cole.
Valera was educated in the one room schoolhouse on Rossman Hill Road and continued to live in the family home until her health failed her. Valera loved to be outside tending to the property and enjoyed reading. She was of Christian faith and attended the West Fulton United Methodist Church.
Her five sisters predeceased her: Ethel Wainwright, Mattie Diamond Hess, Katie Diamond, Emma Shafer, and Josie Bever, along with several nieces and nephews.
Survivors include her niece: Carol Shafer Miller of Summit;several generations of great-nephews and great-nieces and her dear friend: Christina Lawyer and her family of Schoharie.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be Rev. Neil Irwin of the West Fulton United Methodist Church. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service, from 10 to 11. Burial will follow in Breakabeen Cemetery.
