Richmondville- Umberto Antonio Pagnotta, 86, of Rossman Fly Road, died Tuesday, June 16, 2020, at Alpine Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Little Falls where he had been a resident for the past six months.

Born October 4, 1933 in Italy, he was the son of Francesio and Teresa (Pulitano) Pagnotta.  On December 31, 1953 he immigrated from Cosenza, Italy to the United States with his brother, Raffaelle.

He retired from Local #37 after fifty years of working as a bricklayer and later a foreman.   A hard-working man, he and his wife built a home in Rye, NY and eventually purchased the farm in Richmondville. He took great pride in continually maintaining and mowing the property. He enjoyed his vegetable garden, fruit trees, working in the barn on his equipment, watching soccer games and visiting with family. Umberto was an avid hunter. He was of a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Worcester.

He married Theresa Giannuzzi on June 18, 1955 and she predeceased him on March 6, 2019.  His three sisters predeceased him prior to his immigration and then his brother predeceased him along with his son, Ralph.

Survivors include his three children:  Mary T. (Richard or Richie) Greene, John J. (Vickie) Pagnotta, and Loretta A. (André or Andy) Cappiello and five grandchildren:  Kristopher Greene, Kayla Greene, Kaitlyn Greene, Cassandra Pagnotta, and Gianna Maria Cappiello; his sister-in-law, Richelina (Gilda) Pagnotta and his nephew, Frank Pagnotta.

A period of visitation will be held at noon on Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Main St., Worcester, with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 1PM, immediately following.  Celebrant will be Rev. Joseph Arockiasomy.  Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Worcester.  In accordance with NYS COVID-19 Guidance Regulations, face coverings and social distancing will be practiced.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities, 61 West Street, Ilion, NY 13357, Attn: Ride Program.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY  12043.
