Breakabeen- Toby King, 83, of State Route 30, died Sunday, December 20, 2009 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford, where he was a resident for the past few years.
Born January 8, 1926 in Breakabeen, he was the son of Moses and Laura (Zeh) King. Toby was a lifelong area resident and was a United States Army veteran, honorably serving his country from 1945 until being discharged in 1946. He was a member of the American Legion Timothy Murphy Post in Middleburgh.
He retired from Sweet Associates, Schenectady, where he was employed as a laborer for the construction firm.
Toby was devoted to his community and church, serving as an elder on the board for the Breakabeen Presbyterian Church, instrumental in the Turkey donation program, and always giving to the food pantry and children. He also enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden.
He was predeceased by two children, Jenny May King and Clinton King, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Lucretia (Gates) King, whom he married July 17, 1948; his five children: Emma (Joseph) Maxwell of Breakabeen, Alice (Samuel) Ostrowski of Breakabeen, Dean King of Breakabeen, Moses (Bonnie) King, Sr. of Sprakers, and Christopher (Theresa) King of Jefferson; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, Dec.23, at the Breakabeen Presbyterian Church, Clauverwie Road, Breakabeen, with Rev. Robert Kendall officiating. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. A prayer service will be offered by the American Legion Timothy Murphy Post at 7:45 PM on Tues. at the funeral home. Spring interment will be held at Breakabeen Cemetery.
