Sharon Springs- Thomas F.P. Slater, 84, of State Highway 10, passed on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at his residence.
Born March 13, 1930 in Seward, he was the son of Peter H. and Emmaline (Nethaway) Slater.
He was a United States Army veteran, honorably serving from 1950 to 1953.
Tom retired from the Sharon Springs Central School District after many years of being head custodial engineer. He was a member of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Sharon Pathfinder Snowmobile Club, and the Dutch Reformed Church in Sharon.
He was predeceased by three siblings: Harriett Young, Harry Slater and Howard Slater.
Survivors include his wife: Marylee Mereness-Slater, whom he married July 27, 2002; two children: Pamela (James) Whittaker of Ithaca, Peter W. (Victoria) Slater of Tampa, FL; two step-daughters: Robyn (Bob) Countryman of Sharon Springs; Alicia (Clint) Birdsall of Clermont, FL; four siblings: Lula Chase of Sharon Springs, Rose Mary Butler of Cobleskill, Roxanne (Arnold) Eckerson of Mayfield and George Slater of Sharon Springs; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Sharon Reformed Church, State Route 10, Sharon Springs, NY.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh.
