Thomas Shaughnessy

Cobleskill- Thomas Shaughnessy, 63, formerly of Cobleskill, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 20, 2017, due to a cardiac arrest at his home in Pensacola, FL.

Born November 4, 1954 in Queens, he was the son of the late Thomas and Kathryn (Lynch) Shaughnessy, who survives him.

Tom was a graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School, class of 1972.  At the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  He received his bachelors from SUNY Brockport, reenlisted as an officer, and received a master’s degree in international business.

He retired from the US Marine Corps as Lt Colonel, and was a bronze star recipient as well as being decorated with numerous other awards.

Survivors include his mother, Kathryn Shaughnessy of Cobleskill; his siblings:Kathryn Marsella of Syracuse, Evelyn (McKenzie) Davies of Cobleskill, Ann (Kevin) Collins of Cobleskill, Joseph (Anita) Shaughnessy of North Carolina, Shawn (Beth) Shaughnessy of Poughkeepsie and Daniel (Kimberly) Shaughnessy of Port Jefferson, NY; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  His brother, William Shaughnessy, predeceased him in 1989.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017 at Infant Jesus RC Church, 110 Myrtle Ave, Port Jefferson with full military honors burial to follow in Calverton National Cemetery.  Family and friends are also invited to attend visitation from 6 to 9 PM on Thursday at Moloney Funeral Home, Port Jefferson Station.
