Thomas Beagen

Cobleskill- Thomas B. Beagen, 85, of Legion Drive, died Sunday, August 30, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness.

Born August 1, 1924, in Staten Island, he was the son of John and Margaret (Rafferty) Beagen. He served as a reservist Seaman First Class for the United States Coast Guard from 1943 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1945.

Employed as an office manager, he retired from Frank Products in Syosset. Mr. Beagen was of lifetime member of the Miller Place Fire Department where he had worked his way to become fire chief, and then served with the Hook and Ladder Company, and lastly as Fire Police.

He and his wife moved to Cobleskill 15 years ago and became communicants of St. Vincent de Paul Church, where he also was active with the Christian Service Committee.

Mr. Beagen was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #2040 of Cobleskill and also the 50 Plus Club of Schoharie.

Survivors include his wife, Helen (Picco) Beagen, whom he married July 8, 1950; his children: Patricia (Henry) Bergmann of Sound Beach, NY, Thomas (Althea) Beagen of Dorloo, Mary Ellen (Thomas) Nagel of Schoharie, William (Wanda) Beagen of Patchogue, Margaret (Christopher) Blohm of Warnerville, and James (Ann Marie) Beagen of Shoreham, NY; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 PM (noon) on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill, with Father Thomas F. Holmes as celebrant. A period of visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM and 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes, NY.
