Middleburgh- Therese M. Henry, 81, of Sunnyside Road, died Monday, January 28, 2013 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital with her loving family at her side.
Born Nov. 2, 1931 in Brooklyn, she was a daughter of Vincent and Rosalie (Schiavo) Cooper.
She was a 1949 graduate of Roxbury High School in New Jersey and later in life received her associate degree from SUNY Cobleskill. She had assisted her husband in the daily operations of the Flander's Research Farm in Sharon Springs.
Therese retired from Rehabilitation Support Services in Schoharie where she was employed as a case coordinator
For over twenty years ,she resided in Sharon Springs and was actively involved in Girl Scouts of America on both a local and regional level. Therese was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she served on the parish council and was a Eucharistic minister. She was also a charter member of the Sharon Springs Volunteer Rescue Squad.
After moving to the Middleburgh area, Therese became a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley and served as a Eucharistic minister there as well.
Therese was predeceased by her husband, William "Dave" Henry, who died in 2008 and her granddaughter, Emilie Benac, who died in 1999.
Survivors include her three children: Kevin M. (Madeline) Henry of Central Bridge, Kathleen (Paul Girsdansky) Henry of Seward, and Barbara (Rod) Perry of Cherry Valley; her seven siblings: Rosalie Scheckel of Nutley, NJ, Virginia Gurrera of Point Pleasant, NJ, Alice Cooper of Bronx, Thomas Cooper of Sharon Springs, Mary Finnegan of Kenvil, NJ, Elaine Sleever of Steubenville, OH, and Dolores Kloczko of Middleburgh; eight grandchildren: Ryan, Erin and Brandon Henry, Matthew Benac, Gwendolyn Girsdansky, Roderick, Caitlyn, and Molly Perry; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM on Friday, February 1, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held on Thursday, January 31 from 6:00 to 8:00PM at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
