Cobleskill- The Reverend Wilbur E. Ivins, 95, of State Route 145 died Friday, September 23, 2016 at his residence with his loving family at his side.
Born July 27, 1921 in Feasterville, PA, he was the son of Jonathan and Elsie (Knight) Ivins.
Wilbur attended Temple University in Philadelphia and graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa. He earned his Master of Divinity at New Brunswick Theological Seminary in New Brunswick, NJ.
His lifetime of service includes his membership and service at North and South Hampton Reformed Church, Churchville, PA and his pastoral position at Lawyersville Reformed Church, Sharon Reformed Church, Pascack Reformed Church, Park Ridge, NJ, First Reformed Church in Catskill, Harlingen Reformed Church in Belle Mead, NJ, chaplain at Boy's Training School in Skillman, NJ, and Pastor of Congregational Care at First Church in Albany (Reformed).
Wilbur was a member of the board of superintendents at New Brunswick Theological Seminary, Board of World Missions, Reformed Church in America, General Synod Council, Reformed Church in America. He was president of Synod of the Mid-Atlantics, Reformed Church in America and pastor emeritus of Harlingen Reformed Church in Belle Mead, NJ, Lawyersville Reformed Church and the Sharon Reformed Church.
Wilbur was predeceased by his brother, Raymond, and sister, Marian Cline.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Rockefeller (van Wagenen) Ivins, whom he married December 31, 1946; his three children: Joanne Ivins of Payson, AZ; Dr. Jonathan Ivins of Germantown, MD, and Gretchen Ivins (Allen) Cosgrove of Cobleskill; three grandchildren: Nicholas Scholer, Sarah Ivins, and Matthew Ivins; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Lawyersville Reformed Church, 4957 State Route 145, Cobleskill, NY 12043. There will be a time of fellowship in the social hall following the service. Burial will be private in Lawyersville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made to Reformed Church World Service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home in Middleburgh.
