Warnerville- Sylvester J. Huse, 92, of Karker Rd., died Saturday, May 7, 2016 at his home.
Born December 2, 1923 in Kingman, KS, he was the son of Frank and Clara (Marx) Huse. Syl proudly served as a combat pilot in the 3rd Attack Group of the 5th Air Force. He flew and fought in the New Guinea and Philippines campaigns. At the end of the war he was on Okinawa. His squadron was to be the second based on the Japanese homeland during the invasion. He then attended University of Iowa where he received his undergraduate degree in 1948 and a Master of Science degree in 1950.
After graduating, Sylvester joined AT&T Comptrollers Dept., and in 1963 was named Chief Actuary. In June of 1967, he was appointed Vice President and Comptroller of Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company. He was appointed Vice President- Accounts and Finance for AT&T Long Distance Lines in Sept. 1970, a position he held until the end of 1983. In January of 1984, he became Vice President and Comptroller for AT &T Communications and later accepted the position of Vice President-Systems Development and Processing for AT&T Communications.
Sylvester was a member of the American Academy of Actuaries, the Financial Executive Institute, and the Society of Actuaries.
The Huse family purchased a farm in Warnerville in 1966, and have maintained their residence there for the past 50 years. He, along with his beloved son, David, operated a grass fed beef farm.
He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill.
He was predeceased by his beloved son, David C. Huse, on June 7, 2010 and two brothers, Cletus and Leo.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline (Campbell) Huse, whom he married Nov. 4, 1950; two sons: Stephen Huse of Dewey Beach, DE and Jeffry (Audrey) Huse of Guilderland; five grandchildren: Justin (Sarah E.) Huse, Stephen (Sarah L.) Huse, Hannah Huse, Johanna Huse, and David Huse; six great-grandchildren; and a sister: Sister Teresita of Great Bend, KS.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Father Thomas Holmes as celebrant. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, May 11 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial with military honors will be at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
