Fort Plain- Susan J. Cortright, 60, of Hickory Hill Road, Fort Plain, New York succumbed to her long battled illness on Sunday, January 8, 2023 at Ellis Hospital, with her Loving family by her side.
Born on October 3, 1962 at the family farmhouse in Stone Arabia, NY, she was the youngest daughter of Bareld and Jantje Jonker (Van den Berg). She was a lifelong resident of the area.
Because of her Love for helping others, Susan attended HFM Boces where she earned her license for practical nursing. Among her various nursing jobs, she was most recently an aide for The Canajoharie School District and was also President of the Canajoharie Crocodile Swim Club for 13 years. She loved watching and facilitating the swim meets.
On August 27, 1994 Sue was married to the love of her life, "Beau" Roger M. Cortright III. She was a true family matriarch, working hard to keep family traditions going and the Best Mother. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, camping ANYWHERE and vacationing to the Jersey Shore.
Prior to her passing Sue had lost a number of loved ones whom she held dear to her heart; her parents, son Ryan Robert Cortright, twin grand babies and sister, Gretchen Dillenbeck.
Sue is survived by her husband, Beau, daughters Elecia (Lance) Harding, Melissa Jonker (Todd Hoffman), Meghan (Nick) Foote and son Jeremy (Mellisa) Cortright. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren; Danion, Ethan, Hilary, Connor, Daren, Landon, Kiana, Tristen, Jaiden, Alexis, Valerie and Lilly. She was one of six children; brothers, Sieds Jonker, Hendrick “Hank” (Jean) Jonker, Jan (Joanie) Jonker and Cornelius Jonker. Sue was an Aunt, a Great-Aunt and a Great-Great-Aunt as well as a surrogate mother, mentor, friend, therapist, confidant, shoulder to cry on, listening ear, problem-solver, teacher, healing hugger and soft place to land for anyone who was in need and was lucky enough to meet and know .
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023 at 11:00am at Salem United Methodist Church, 1254 Stone Arabia Road, Fort Plain, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 at the church. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery in Fonda.
