Stewart Mace

Gilboa: Stewart G. Mace, 87, of Mace Rd., died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at his home following a brief illness.

Stewart was born on September 25, 1923 in Gilboa to the late Gladys (Lemon) and Stanley Mace.

Stewart was a 1941 graduate of Gilboa Central School and attended Cornell University before returning home to work on the family farm.

The Mace Homestead was the number one milk producer in Schoharie County for several years.

He was also a member of the Dairy Herd Improvement Association.

Stewart was the former Gilboa Town Supervisor for many years and served as Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Schoharie County for sixteen years.

He also served on the Board of the Keyserkill Cemetery Association and the Broome Center Chapel Church.

Stewart was predeceased by his wife, Clyda Belle (Bailey) Mace, on May 5, 2004 and his sister: Dora Mace and two brothers: Robert and Donald Mace.

Stewart is survived by his brother: Victor Mace of Broome Center; sister: Katharine Bedford of Stamford; sisters-in-law: Nancy Mace of Palatine Bridge and Rose Mace of Breakabeen; several nieces and nephews including Joyce Bailey of Gilboa; special friends and caregivers: Jim and Lisa Young of Middleburgh and a sister-in-law: Maude Haskin of Grand Gorge.

A funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at the Broome Center Chapel Church, 219 Mace Rd., Gilboa, with Rev. Stanley Skinner and Pastor Jason Thompson co-officiating.

Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 5-7pm on Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Burial will be in the Keyserkill Cemetery.
