Shirley Terpening

Central Bridge - Shirley Jean (Shafer) Terpening, 69, of Pleasantview Road, died Friday, October 22, 2010, at her residence with her family at her side.

Born October 28, 1940 in the Town of Gilboa, NY, Shirley was a daughter to Harold and Mary E. (Van Wormer) Shafer. She was raised in Sloansville, was a 1958 Graduate of Schoharie Central Schools and was a member of the Esperance-Sloansville United Methodist Church. More recently, she attended the United Methodist Church in Dorloo.

On March 13, 1966 she married Donald F. Terpening in Sharon Springs and he predeceased her on April 14, 2000. Together they enjoyed bowling with the Thursday Nite Rollers in Cobleskill and being members of the Schoharie County Shunpikers Campers' Club. Shirley was proud to drive their motor home and loved to travel and site see.

A true supporter of her grandchildren, she was in attendance at almost all their sports events and enjoyed reading to them in their younger years. Shirley was a member of the Central Bridge Seniors and enjoyed the Hospice dinner group.

She had been a cashier at the Country Mart in Sloansville and had also worked at the local ice cream shop.

Survivors include her children: JoAnn (Matthew) Wilms of Seward and Donald F. Terpening, Jr. (Jennifer Hicks) of Cobleskill; four grandchildren: Brandon Wilms and Amanda Wilms, both of Seward, R.J. Terpening and Matthew Terpening, both of Cobleskill; a sister: Barbara Diamond of Central Bridge; several nieces and nephews including niece, Patti, and great-niece, Katie.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh with Rev. Steffen Zehrfuhs of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Central Bridge and David Houck of the Dorloo United Methodist Church co-officiating. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 5PM to 7 PM on Monday. Burial will be in Seward Valley Cemetery, Dorloo, NY.
