Carlisle- Shirley Seward, 75, of State Route 20, died Wednesday, January 9, 2012 at The Villages Regional Hospital in Florida.
Born October 28, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Willie and Julia (Hadsell) Clapper.
For several years Shirley was a supervisor at the former W.T. Grant Co. in Cobleskill, retiring in 1976. It was then that she became the postmaster in Carlisle until January of 1998.
Shirley was a member of the National Assoc. of Postmasters and the National League of Postmasters.
She was also a member of the Carlisle Presbyterian Church.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred Seward, who died in 1984, her longtime companion, Kenneth Tompkins, and three siblings: Marjorie Gorton, Roy Clapper, and William Clapper.
Survivors include her two children: David (Lisa) Seward of Magna, UT and Agnes (Butch) Parslow of Clifton Park; two siblings: Linda (Robert) Teytand of Carlisle and Jerry Clapper of Cobleskill; three grandchildren: Angie Nikolaus, Jason and Aurora Seward; several great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews; and one great-great-niece.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Bert Mayne officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Tues. Spring interment will be in Carlisle Cemetery.
