East Worcester- Shirley E. Rifenburg, 89, formerly of East Worcester, died Monday, May 15, 2017 at The Ross Home for Adults in Maryland, NY
Born November 18, 1927 in East Worcester, she was the daughter of Howard and Margaretta (Putman) Rifenburg.
Shirley graduated from Worcester Central School and began her career with the former Ma Bell Telephone Company in Oneonta. She was a switchboard operator for over thirty years, retiring from New York Telephone Company,
Shirley was a member of the former Cobleskill Wesleyan Church where she also taught Sunday school.
Survivors include her sister, Marguerite (Russell) Case, Jr. of Medusa; nephews: Russell Case III, Michael Case, Mark Case, David (Doreen) Freeman and nieces: Marilyn (Rich) Sager, Norma (Art) Barrett, and Janet (Richard) Gaige.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Donald Klob officiating. Burial will be in South Valley Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
