Cobleskill- Mrs. Shirley J. Brooker, 78, formerly of Richmondville, died Saturday, January 29, 2011 at her residence in Cobleskill with her family at her side.
Born November 21, 1932 in East Cobleskill, she was the daughter of Charles and Lela (Tator) Terpenning.
Shirley resided in Richmondville most of her married life, moving to Cobleskill in 1997. She first was a presser for many years at the former VanDeusen Dress Shop in Cobleskill and later worked at the former Carl's Drug Store and then Fay's. Shirley retired from SUNY Cobleskill where she was employed at Prentice Hall by the Faculty/Student Association.
Shirley was a member of the Richmondville United Methodist Church and was a forty-three year member of the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She belonged to the Shunpikers Campers' Club and was an avid Bingo player.
Shirley married Ralph C. Brooker Nov. 27, 1949 and after forty-nine years of marriage, he predeceased her on December 5, 1998. Several of her siblings also predeceased her.
Survivors include her children: Larry (Jan) Brooker and Nancy (Gary) Morgan of Cobleskill, Gary (Jolene) Brooker of Lansing, NY and Denise (Roger) Borthwick of Warnerville; seven grandchildren: Larry Brooker,Jr., Shelly King, Carrie Cary, Sara Ruckdeschel, Joshua Morgan, Nicole Sterner, and Zachary Brooker; nine great-grandchildren: Taylor Brooker, Corrigan Brooker, Tristan King, Makena King, Breanna Roncal, Kyla Roncal, AnaRose Ruckdeschel, Andrew Ruckdeschel, and Zachary Brooker, Jr.; four sisters: Marion King, Ada Wayman, Dorothy Brumaghim and Catherine Orth all of Cobleskill; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday, January 31, 2001 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Gary Morgan officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 5 to 6 PM on Monday, prior to the service. Spring interment will be in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
