Sherrie J. Bartholomew died peacefully at her home in Middleburgh, N.Y., December 27th, 2012, after a brief illness. Sherrie was born on April 3rd, 1942, in the town of Hobart, Delaware Co., N.Y. She was the daughter of the late William Nesbitt (1911-1970) and Ina M. Nesbitt nee Travis (1918-2010). She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Howard R. Bartholomew of Middleburgh, N.Y., her son Dr. Alexander J. Bartholomew and his fiancé Dr. Amy D. Forestell of New Paltz, N.Y., and her sister Dr. Nancy N. Vacc of Gainesville, FL.; she was predeceased by a brother, James Nesbitt, Sr. in 1987. Other surviving family members include her nephew James Nesbitt, Jr. and wife Sharon of Cobleskill, N.Y., niece Dorinda Slaughter and husband Ray and niece Lesa Nesbitt, both of Richmond, VA., and niece Jeannie Breslin and husband Mark of Athens, N.Y., along with numerous cousins, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Sherrie was Assistant Dean of Women at S.U.N.Y. Cobleskill from 1966-1974, and from 1978-2004 taught Home Economics at Duanesburg Jr./Sr. High School in Delanson, N.Y.

Very active in community affairs, Sherrie was at the time of her death President of Dam Concerned Citizens, Inc., the citizen advocacy group for the Gilboa Dam and Schoharie Reservoir. Previously, Sherrie had served on the Board of Directors of the Community Hospital of Schoharie Co., now the Cobleskill Regional Hospital, as Scoutmaster of Troop 2 in Middleburgh, N.Y., treasurer and organist for the 2nd Reformed Church of Howes Cave, N.Y., and Chairman of the Patrons Tent at the Capital District Scottish Games.

An avid conservationist, Sherrie was a certified fly casting instructor, having taken courses in the sport from the Wolff School of Fly Fishing in Lew Beach, N.Y., and enjoyed frequent fishing trips with her family.

Sherrie and her family wish to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Ellis Hospital, Home Care of Rochester, and the Catskill Area Hospice for their outstanding compassion and professional skills during her brief, but intense illness.

Calling hours will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 30th, at the Palmer and Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, N.Y. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 31st, at 2:00 p.m. at the Second Reformed Church, Lester Ln., Howes Cave, N.Y., the Reverend Jared Van Wagenen officiating. A time of remembrance and refreshment will follow the service at the church. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Dam Concerned Citizens, Inc., P.O. Box 310, Middleburgh, N.Y., 12122.
