Sheila Margaret Coger

Sheila Margaret Coger, 76, of State Route 10, Sharon Springs, New York died Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at her home.

Born on December 14, 1948, in Mount Clemons, Michigan, she was the daughter of William and Florence (Gariepy) Benedict. She was born and raised in Roseville, Michigan, graduating from Roseville High School. She attended College in Michigan for Law Enforcement and in New York for Business and Religion.

Sheila worked for New York State Police, SUNY Albany and Cobleskill Police Department. She was the first Policewoman for SUNY Albany and Cobleskill. She retired from the Police Department with the rank of Lieutenant, one of five statewide.

She was Liturgical Deacon for Zion/St. John's Lutheran Church in Seward. She was also Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and Past Grand Charity of the International Order of Rainbow for Girls.

Sheila enjoyed watching car races, knitting, painting, crafts, and decorating her home.

On November 28, 1974, Thanksgiving Day, Sheila married Frederick Charles Coger. Together they celebrated over 50 years of marriage.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Frederick Charles Coger; children, Beth (Victor) Taylor of Worcester, NY, Amy (Don) France of Middleburgh, NY, Jeffrey (Samantha) Coger of Saratoga, NY, Shawnee (Victor) Taylor of Cobleskill, NY; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Roger R. and Dian Benedict.

Sheila is predeceased by her parents, William and Florence Benedict, and her sister, Linda L. (John) Frimann

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043. Burial will take place in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
