Sarah Compton

Howes Cave - Sarah Loretta Compton, 77, of Caverns Road, died Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at her residence with her loving family by her side, following a long illness.

Born July 19, 1935 in Greenville, NY (Orange County), she was a daughter of Howard Robert and Mabel "Esther" (Gumaer) Lewis.

Sarah and her husband moved to the Cobleskill area in 1966 and she was most recently employed at The Everything Shoppe in Cobleskill as store manager for several years. Sarah was a member of the D.A.R. Christian Brown Chapter.

Survivors include her husband, Roy P. Compton, whom she married November 13, 1954; her children: Roy I. (Rosalind) Compton of Delanson, Theodore M. (Brenda) Compton of Howes Cave, Penelope M. (James) Brundage of Bixby, OK, and Rebecca E. (John) Butler of Cobleskill, William B. (Diane) Storms of Port Jervis; her sister: Rosemary (Doug) Marcolina of Middletown; brother: John (Nancy) Lewis of Ocala, FL; fifteen grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Pastor Richard Owens of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Middleburgh officiating. Family and friends are also invited for a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home prior to the service on Saturday from 9AM to 10 AM. The committal service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday at the Rural Valley Cemetery, Cuddebackville, NY.
