Sadie Nikolaus

Cobleskill- Sadie J. Nikolaus, 82, formerly of Cobleskill and Middleburgh, died Friday, November 22, 2013 at Robinson Terrace in Stamford, NY following a long illness.

Sadie was born July 10, 1932 in Middleburgh, NY to Evaleen (Lawyer) and Hezekiah Rivenburg, Sr.

She attended Middleburgh Central School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree. She began her career as a Registered Nurse and later worked as an Investigator for the Schoharie County Department of Social Services, retiring in 1987.

She was a member of the Hayshakers, loved to dance and listen to country music.
She also shared her mother's passion for making crafts and they travelled to many craft shows together. Sadie was also an amateur photographer and most of all, loved spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by her brothers Hezekiah Rivenburg, Jr. and Philip G. Rivenburg, Sr.

She is survived by her daughter: Cindy (Gerald) Handy of Cobleskill, sons: Joseph Nikolaus of Cobleskill, Jay P. Nikolaus of Troy; grandchildren: Ashley Nikolaus of Houston, TX., Christopher Nikolaus of Houston, TX., Scott Handy of Richmondville, Michael (Jaimie) of Cobleskill; great-grandchildren: Riley Handy, Thatcher Handy, Liam Handy; sister: Hilda (Joseph) Kernozek of Voorheesville; sister-in-law: Marjory Rivenburg of Middleburgh.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St. Middleburgh, NY. Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Middleburgh Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
