Royal "Roy" W. Burrows, 72, of Summit, formerly of Midland Park, NJ, died unexpectedly on January 18, 2009.
He was born in Midland Park, NJ on December 3, 1936.
Roy was a Korean War Naval Veteran, serving on the U.S.S. Ault destroyer escort.
He was a retired electrician and member of the IBEW 164, Local 102.
Roy was a former Director of Buildings and Grounds for the Ramapo-Indian Hills Schools.
He was a retired life member of the Midland Park Fire Department and helped install their fire alarm system in the 1970s. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors' Association and the American Legion Post #0249 in Richmondville.
After retiring and moving to Summit, he and his partner, Elsa, purchased and operated Elroy's in Richmondville until 2001. He worked for Country Boy Reality for several years. Roy served as a past Summit Fire Commissioner, and a volunteer of the Summit Rescue Squad, responding to almost every call.
He is survived by Elsa, his partner of 18 years; his daughter, Barbara Moore; grandson, Aaron Everitt Moore of Fair Lawn, NJ; his sister and brother-in-law, Brenda and John Snowden of Ramsey, NJ, and his nephews and nieces, Tammy, John, Mark, Savannah, and Carson.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the United Methodist Church, State Route 10, Summit, NY. Officiating will be Rev. Gary Edmister of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville. Burial will follow in Summit Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Summit Rescue Squad, State Route 10, Summit, NY, 12175, or to a charity of one's choice.
