Ronald Beilby

November 2, 1951 — December 3, 2023

Ronald “Pete” Beilby, 72, called last call on Sunday, December 3rd, 2023.

Pete was a friend to many and a loyal husband, father, and grandfather. You could always find Pete with his side-kick and son, Bub, sharing a beverage with his trusted circle at many local watering holes or hosting “Sunday School” at his home in Cobleskill. Very quick witted, Pete loved a good joke, as long as he wasn’t on the receiving end of it. He enjoyed all games of chance, watching old westerns, and traveling. He organized several bus trips to Atlantic City as well as deep sea fishing trips.

Pete was the proprietor of several local businesses, including The American Tavern, which he operated with his wife, Vi, for several years. He also owned and operated Pete’s Refuse Service and 2 local Mobil gas stations (currently Convenience Corner and Speedway). Pete worked for the Cobleskill- Richmondville Central School District as a bus driver for over 45 years.

He was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Area #2695, The Canajoharie Moose Lodge #853, The Cobleskill Elks Lodge #2040, and Schoharie County Conservation Association.

A lifelong resident of Schoharie County, Pete was born on November 2, 1951 to Orlo and Doris (Crandall) Beilby in Cobleskill, NY. He graduated from the former Cobleskill High School in 1970.

He is survived by his wife, Viola (Shaw) Beilby, whom he married on June 9th, 1978; four children: Lynn Pollitt (Joel) of Cobleskill, Jennifer Pollitt of Rotterdam, Joan Goodrich (Brian) of Cobleskill, and Ronald “Bub” Beilby of Cobleskill; grandchildren: Garrett Persons (Jennifer) of Hutto, TX, Sean Nikolaus of Norfolk, VA, Calvin Goodrich, Julie Goodrich, Natalie Goodrich; great-grandson, Ryker Goodrich, all of Cobleskill; niece, Erin Stone (Stoney) of Cobleskill; nephew, Kristoffer Beilby (Danyelle) of Endicott; longtime friends, Darlene Coon of Roseboom as well as Jimmy Gray of Cobleskill, who gladly chauffeured Pete wherever he wished to go; sister, Eldena Ingraham of Cobleskill and brother, Gary Beilby of TN. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was predeceased by his parents, sisters: Janet and Phyllis and brother, Randall.

Pete will be honored on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends from noon to 2PM, with services immediately following. Interment will be in the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268 Warnerville, NY 12187.
