Middleburgh, NY- Rolf R. Gruning, 90, of Grove Street died Saturday, June 10, 2006, at his son's home following a long illness.
Mr. Gruning was born November 7, 1915 in New York City, the son of Frederick W. and Gertrude (Kurtz) Gruning.
A retired United States Army Major, Mr. Gruning and his wife traveled to many countries during his years of service. They moved to Middleburgh from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina struck. They had also resided in San Antonio, TX and Long Beach, Mississippi, where he had volunteered for the literacy programs and assisted with tax preparation for those who needed it.
Survivors include his wife, E.P. Gruning of Middleburgh; 3 daughters: Judy Califano of Highlands, NC, Elizabeth Lea of Brighton, CO, and Barbara Guichet of New Orleans; 2 sons: Peter R. Gruning of San Marcos, TX, and Thomas R. Gruning of Middleburgh; 9 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Cremation will take place at Vale Crematory, Schenectady. There will be no funeral service or visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice Hope Foundation 327 West Main St. Suite 3 Cobleskill, NY 12043.
