Richmondville- Roger P. Smith, 53, of Brooker Hollow Road, died Saturday, April 15, 2006, at Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County in Cobleskill.
Mr. Smith was born May 16, 1952 in Cobleskill, the son of Arthur L. and Helen G. (Banks) Smith.
He was a graduate of State University College of Oneonta and a member of the honor society. For the past 17 years, he was employed as quality control inspector at Kintz Plastics, Inc. of Howes Cave.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong member and served on the council was a trustee at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Richmondville. He was one of the founding members and trustee of the Richmondville Historical Society.
Mr. Smith was an amateur genealogist and historian. He was also an environmentalist and supporter of progressive causes. Mr. Smith was a horticulturalist.
Survivors include his partner of 27 years, Vernon Hall of Richmondville; a brother, Richard L. Smith of Newburgh, and 2 nephews, Keith Smith and Jared Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 20, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Main Street Richmondville, with Rev. Gary Edmister officiating. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 AM Thursday, prior to the service.
