Robert "Bob" Jones, Sr.

Cobleskill-Robert “Bob” D. Jones, Sr., 77, of Shad Point died Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Albany Medical Center following months of declining health.

Born January 28, 1944, in Stamford, NY, he was the son of the late David H. and Mary E. (Moxham) Jones.

Bob was employed in various capacities for 30 years at General Electric in Schenectady.  He was also a member of the B.P.O.E. #2040 in Cobleskill.

In his leisure, Bob enjoyed gambling, playing cards, gardening, and shopping.  He was known as “Poppy” or “Poppy George” to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving Bob are his loving wife, Kathleen (Ray) Jones; his eight children: Rhoda Kinder of Berne, Robert (Kelly) Jones, Jr. of Lawyersville, Ronald (Colleen) Marsh of Charlotteville, Sheila Frank of Cobleskill, Melissa (Gerard) Kaplanowski of Galway, Diane (Bart) Ingersoll of Carolina Shores, NC, Tammy Althiser of Cobleskill, and Susan (Jeremy) Strickland of New Brunswick, Canada; two sisters:  Elizabeth (Richard) Stone of Cobleskill and Flora (Benji) Zimmerman of Davenport, 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey and granddaughter, Cassandra.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation from 1PM to 3PM on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where a service will be held at 3PM.  Officiating will be Rev. Perry Jones of the Capital City Rescue Mission.  Cremation will follow the service.  All attendees are requested to have face coverings.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Critical Care Unit at Albany Medical Center for their care and concern for Bob.
