Robert Wittnebert

Cobleskill - Robert F. Wittnebert, 87, of Quarry Street, died Saturday, October 9, 2010 at Cobleskill Regional Hospital.

Born July 6, 1923 in Hoboken, NJ, he was the son of Henry and Anna (Balster) Wittnebert.

Robert was a United States Navy veteran from 1942 until being honorably discharged in 1945 as an aviation radioman serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 0423 Department of NJ.

He retired from Wright Aeronautical of Wood-Ridge, NJ, where he was an instrument maker for over thirty years.

Having a passion for golf, Bob became a member of the Cobleskill Golf and Country Club when he and his wife moved here in 1985 from New Jersey. He was a wonderful family man, who took care of his wife, Jean, as she became ill in her later years. She predeceased him on Dec. 29, 2007.

Survivors include his two children: Jayne F. Milak and her husband Richard of Dingmans Ferry, PA and Philip H. Wittnebert and his significant other Mary Alice of Hackettstown, NJ; and his two grandchildren: Sarah Myer of Cobleskill and Michael E. Wittnebert, US Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, NC and his wife Anaya, as well as special family friend Timothy Hoose.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 2 to 3 PM on Thursday, prior to the service. Cremation will follow the service and inurnment will be with full military honors at 10 AM Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery.
