Richmondville- Robert W. Schmidt, 54, of Trout Haven Road, formerly of Middleburgh, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Bassett Medical Center with his wife at his side, after a brave and brutal battle of cancer.
Born July 23, 1956 in East Meadow, NY, Bob lived in Middleburgh most of his life and attended Middleburgh Central School.
For twenty-seven years he was the proprietor, president, and CEO of Schmidt's Concrete, Inc. Bob was a past member of the Huntersland Volunteer Fire Dept. and at one time served as chief. He was also a past member of the Schoharie County FIVES.
Bob was a hardworking man all his life and occasionally played hard as well and enjoyed his camp at Pleasant Lake.
He was predeceased by his infant daughter, Kyla Marie Schmidt, his father, William Schmidt, and a companion, Susan Compel.
A loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Bob is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Feehan) Schmidt, whom he married Aug. 12, 2000, of Richmondville; his daughter: Renee Schmidt (Steve Kowalski) and their children, Stephen and Lyla Kowalski of Middleburgh; his mother: Irene Schmidt of Middleburgh; his sister: Debbie (Ted) Palmatier of Middleburgh; his brother: Steve (Nancy) Schmidt of Middleburgh; a niece: Adrienne Lusk; two nephews: Tyler Schmidt and John Palmatier; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh with Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
